Memorial Day

"We cherish too, the Poppy red
That grows on fields where valor led,
It seems to signal to the skies
That blood of heroes never dies."

I've always had good memories of Memorial Day starting from my childhood when we'd gather up all the blooms from our yard and the yards of my grandmothers so we'd have flowers to put on the graves of men who have served in our family in the wars - WWI, WWII, etc. and on other family graves. My grandmother Fae was often asked to recite the poem "In Flander's Fields" for Memorial Day services and she would put the little red and green paper poppies and flags on soldiers graves. A good heritage.
